Happy Tails

HOME, SWEET HOME!!!

Here's Lucas in his new home!!!! Lucas was surrendered to the shelter because his owners were moving. He was so very scared that he did not even want to come out of his cage. He finally took that big step and sat on a volunteer's lap. At first he was actually trembling with fear from all of the stress, but eventually he relaxed.
Now he can feel safe in his new home!!!

Powderpuff and Katrina

Hi SPCA, Just wanted to update you a year and some later on Powderpuff and Katrina.  I was inspired by your happy tails page.  We have renamed them Agnes and Ivy.  They live with two other walk-on cats, Edith and Margo, and a dog named Puccini.  They are all great friends. We think they're very happy.Agnes loves boxes and getting in the sawdust in the workshop and hiding in shadows. Ivy likes to be in the sun and on the couch and likes to sit in high places to watch her people.
At first when they came home, Agnes was terrified of the TV and spent most of the time hiding in the bathroom behind the toilet.  Now she's confident in her surroundings.  Ivy was bolder but she didn't really know how to navigate the large dog.  She also had NO idea what the sweeper was about. Now she's content to be wherever and nothing much phases her.
I've attached some pictures.  The first three are shortly after we brought them home. Then I gave you some of Agnes relaxing in her boxes and drinking from the sink--she likes that too.  Then you have Ivy in the sun and curled up in bed.
Thank you for our friends, we love our animals.

"Rachel" hamming it up!!!

Hello there,Just wanted to update you. Rachel is doing great. She has not been crated at all.
So far her separation anxiety is very good. She is definitely a daddy's girl.
She loves her walks!!! Fitting in great!!!

Christina and Keith

Just wanted to give you an update on Scout (Marlin). It has been just about three months since he came home with us, and he is doing well. He has one of the best personalities I have ever seen in a dog...very smart, lovable and definitely knows how to work the charm. He loves walks and car rides (As you can see in one of the pictures he runs to the door when he senses we are getting ready to leave.) We have had so much fun with him and have really enjoyed getting to know him. I think he has definitely come to know our home as his home. Hope you enjoy the pictures I have attached.

"Zayda" getting spoiled in her new home in New Jersey!!
She's now a "Jersey Girl"!!

Toodles (now called Maxie) is gettng lots of love in her new home!!!

We LOVE Maxie, as she is the perfect fit for our household.  If you will recall, we were initially interested in a different dog, but upon visiting to "just check things out", we were very quickly drawn to her instead, at the suggestion of one of your volunteer staffers.  We cannot imagine the circumstances that dictated Maxie's arrival at the SPCA, but you indicated that the extended length of her stay is likely attributable to her being a Pit Bull, and peoples' fear of them due to bad media publicity.  After 2 weeks of getting to know each other, please allow me to debunk those myths and let other folks know what they missed out on:

As an American Pit Bull, Maxie is indeed a very strong dog, with a lot of energy.  That is the ONLY thing the media got correct!  Our Pit Bull is the most loving and affectionate dog I can imagine.  She is also very curious, extremely intelligent, and quite obedient.  We thought we would have to invest a fair amount of time in some training.  However, we are ECSTATIC with her bathroom habits; she hasn't had a single accident since she arrived, and was quickly promoted to "full" house privileges.  She comes when called; sits; stays; shakes paws; fetches; releases; and gets "down" when told.  She does NOT enter rooms she is not allowed in, i.e. bathrooms.  She loves to "tan" in the sunny spots of the house; she loves to watch TV on the couch with us (she had to be coaxed onto the furniture); she likes to sleep in the rooms with her older "brothers" and "sisters", sometimes even crawling onto the bed with them, at their request; she likes to go for walks and play in the yard; she LOVES to ride in the car and willingly allows herself to be buckled into her seatbelt harness.

In 2 short weeks, she has grown to become an integral part of this family!  We LOVE her, and we're pretty sure she loves us back, based on the snuggling involved!  We almost feel sorry for anyone who passed her over (ALMOST?!), but are glad they did!  Attached, please find pictures of Maxie & my daughter, supposedly working on homework, but apparently taking a "brain break" and Maxie watching TV on the couch with my lovely wife!  Ironically, this very same woman made it VERY CLEAR to me from the get-go that she WILL NOT consider a Pit Bull, as they are "dangerous" dogs.  With the Pit Bull Maxie in our life, the only "danger" now is whether our couch is large enough for everyone!

THANK YOU for your help and assistance in helping us find the proper dog for US.  I hope that others will be encouraged to consider this loyal and loving breed for their families too?!

Sincerely,
Jim & Lisa

"Buddy" (now called "Bear") is the best snuggler ....

I just wanted to follow up and give you some updates on Buddy who is now going by the name of “Bear”. All we can say is that Bear is absolutely loving his new home, and we are loving him. Once again, we want to thank you for staying late on Monday evening and expediting the adoption process so we could take him home with us. Bear is one of the most loving dogs that we have ever had, and is absolutely the best snuggler according to my wife and children. Over the past 2 days he has been enjoying the kids chasing him in the backyard, going on walks and runs with my wife, and being able to lay in the bed with us. Last night he decided that he would join our son in the bathtub, which Connor thought was the funniest thing he had seen.

Bear went to our vets office yesterday and went thru a complete checkup. With all of the love and attention that Bear received from our vets office, I think he is looking forward to his follow up visit.

I have attached a couple of pictures of Bear enjoying the snow.

Thor is loved to pieces ...

Hello. I'm just writing to thank you for saving "Thor" the Siberian Husky that we adopted a few weeks back. We love him To Pieces and he is great. He answers to Squirt and to Sergei so I'm thinking that his original name sounded like that. Thank you again for bringing him into our lives!! All the best.
Lori

THE PERFECT ADDITION!!!!!

Hello all!! My husband and I wanted to to give you all an update on lovely Lola! She is doing so well in her new home! We can't tell you enough about how well behaved she is! She has been the PERFECT addition to our home!! She is the biggest cuddle-bug and gets as close as possible to us when it's relaxing time! She loves to curl up on any blanket she can find!

She has even gone to day care quite a few times down the street from our house and has made MANY new friends (human and dog)!!! You can see her below with one of her Great Dane friends! Everyone raves about how happy she is all the time (she has what we call "happy butt", her wagging tail takes over her whole body)!

This is her favorite "neighborhood watch" perch!

"HAPPY EASTER"

We are so grateful to have found your SPCA and Lola! We couldn't be happier!!

Thank you so much!

"Lassye" warming her toes by the fire in her new home!!!

We just wanted to drop you a line that Lassye is doing very well. We changed her name to Harper. I attached a couple of pictures, one Harper is getting warm by the fire and the other is her on her best behavior sitting and listening to commands, yea right.

She does love to go around the lake as there are lots of smells and geese and ducks to keep her focussed. She does good with other dogs as long as they understand that she is boss. She started her first day of school today and was the star (biggest pain) of the class.

She is great with little kids and is starting to do very well with commands.

thanks

"Blitz"

"Let's play ball .... I'm ready!!"

Hello! I adopted a shepherd mix puppy (though as he gets bigger, I'm wondering if he's a hound mix of some sort), named Blitz, from the Adams County SPCA nearly 3 months ago. I wanted to let you know that he's doing excellent!

Blitz is being spoiled rotten by everyone here. He loves going on walks and is incredibly curious, even though we take the same route every day. He also loves going to the park to play fetch. His favorite place in the house is by the fire place, especially after going out in the cold. I've attached a couple of pictures of him for you.

Anyway, just wanted you to know he's doing well and we're so happy to have him with us!

Lauren

"Willow" in her new home!!!!

"Hi Mom, I love you!! Be sure to send this picture to the Adams County SPCA
because I know they loved me and want to know how I'm doing!"

"Awww Home Sweet Home!  I can't believe this all mine!"

"Colby" & "Blake"

Colby was found tied to the stop sign at the corner of Goldenville Rd and Shrivers Corner Rd with another dog with choke collars at night. Both dogs were black, hellooooo ... didn't anyone think that they could have been hit by a car??? Luckily the police found them and brought them to safety. Blake was a stray. Look at them now!!

Here's a little note from their Mom:
I adopted Bear formally known as Blake about 4 years ago. I then adopted Colby last spring!
I just wanted you all to see how cute they are and how they are together!! - Sue

Looks like "Scout" has finally found his forever home!!!

As you can see, just after one day of being adopted, Scout (new name Marlin) has settled in quite nicely.  He is one of the most lovable dogs we have ever encountered and we are all enjoying him.  Just wanted to share the experience we have had with him thus far.

Another "Happy Tail" .... actually it's a DOUBLE Happy Tail!!!

Brin & Rusty both adopted on 1/17/13 looks like
they have made themselves at home lol!!!!

A little note from their new family:
Rusty and Brin are doing wonderful. They have adjusted well. We have a twice daily Daytona 500 that is absolutely hilarious. They love running around the first floor, up the stairs around the second floor and back down. They love playing with all their new toys. I can't say we have any problems as of now. Overall, we are all getting along really well. I absolutely could not have picked better kittens. They are so loving and provide a lot of entertainment.
Thank you for doing what you do. I will always continue to adopt from the SPCA.

Good Morning Everyone just wanted to say hello.

You can tell I have such a busy life, trying to figure out my next nap.
I will be in to visit thanks again for the good care I received when I lived with you. HUGS PANDOR

 "Barney" enjoying the good life!!!!
   Happy and Content!!

“Barney” a cat seized in an animal cruelty case has found a wonderful new home!!
Congratulations to Barney and his new family!!!

A note from his new family:

Hi Adams County SPCA!  We are so happy to have adopted Whiskers (A.K.A..Barney). He brings so much joy to our family and even our dog and him love to play together every evening. We thank you for your dedication to rescuing these animals and helping them to find homes. We pray that more people will love their animals and give them the homes they deserve.

Have a Merry Christmas,
God Bless,

The Updyke Family

"Kerry" has her very own Christmas tree!!! Yaay!!

Kerry says hello to all her old friends at the SPCA, and: Merry Christmas to all!

We just received this pic and a little note from Kerry's new Mom!  She is such a wonderful cat. We are amazed that no one ever adopted her in all the time she was at the SPCA. We are so happy to have her here with us. Now she can run around the whole house. And, when the weather is good, she can go outside on the screened-in back porch and watch all the birds, squirrels, and rabbits in the backyard.

Thanks again for everything, and Happy Holidays,

Carol & Rich

We just received another pic of a
happy dog
adopted from the ACSPCA!!! Yaay!!

Merry Christmas from Tanner!

"Nick" & "Summer"

Nick and Summer are two of the 21 Thoroughbred weanlings that were seized in November of 2011 from a farm in Littlestown by the Adams County SPCA.  The owner was found guilty of 14 counts of animal cruelty.  They are now enjoying a great life together at their new home!!!

Hello SPCA staff and all of my furry friends ...

It's me Prince, now known as Princetin ...  I am doing really well with my new family and I love my new home.  I can't lie  I was a little scared for the first few days as I was getting used to my new surroundings.  Now I am a lot more relaxed and zoom around the house as fast as possible, up and down the stairs to play with all my new toys.  I even got my own bed and a brand new cat condo to relax on.

I get a lot of hugs, kisses and treats.  I even have a furry brother Romeo who I share a bond with due to both being adopted from a Shelter.  I am so happy to have a great family that gives me so much love & care.  My Mommy says that I am so cute and she does like to hold me in a blanket and cuddle me.  Which I Love!!!

Thank you SPCA for taking really great care of me during my stay with you and
I do really hope that the rest of my friends are lucky and find a loving home like mine.

From an unwanted stray dog to a ...
lounging with the family kind of a guy!!!

Hello, Jean and I thought you might like a picture and update on Poncho. First we renamed him Iggy, because for the first few days he did a good job of ignoring us, we don’t have that problem anymore but we still like the name Iggy. We may rename him again, after spending over $2500 to get his numerous dental issues corrected. I have taken to addressing him as “Big Money”. He occasionally accompanies me to work where he has made many new friends especially my coworker Jen, he is very content to lay about in our offices and rarely will he bark when left alone.

Iggy’s first day in his new back yard was a challenge as his first instinct was to try to get between the boards and make a break for it. The following day we put up heavy gauge wire around the fence, problem solved. He rarely stays very long outdoors by himself usually does his business and comes back indoors to lounge around the house with us.

Iggy still is sheepish when it comes to hanging in the shop with me, a work in progress.

His coat has become very soft and we think he is happy with his new family as we are with him.
One final thought I don’t believe he is mixed breed, likely he is a Korean Jindo.

"Max" has a new home, a new brother and gets to sleep in bed with Mom & Dad!!!
It doesn't get much better than that!!!

A note from his new Mom:  "We adopted Max last Wednesday, and every day since then, he is getting more and more comfortable in our home and with Madison. Max love his new home and enjoys trying to do everything his big brother Madison does! He even likes to sleep in between my husband and myself at night."

"We did find that Max doesn't like wearing a collar with a bell on it, as we put it on him two nights in a row,
and each night he figured out how to get it off! We're so grateful to have Max as a part of our Family!"

Missy, Matt, Madison, & Max

"Lobo" has been reunited with his family!!!!

Things are not always what they seem. A family gets a dog from the Internet, has him for 6 hours and he bolts out the door, unaware of his new surroundings.  He goes missing for almost 6 months .... that dog was "Lobo" and he has been reunited with his family this weekend.  Here is a little note from his family:

I just wanted to let everyone know that Tank "Lobo" is doing quite amazing! Although he will only let my oldest daughter & I pet, love and kiss him. I gave him his meds this morning and he got a bath, which he LOVED!! The kisses I got from him this morning brought tears to my eyes! He loves when I sit on the floor with him, he will come right up to me and sit in front of me and just look at me with those adorable eyes and I just love on him and kiss him (You guys would be amazed!) He is eating a lot and was sitting with me this morning while I made breakfast for my family :) He even had a little piece of bacon, a piece of bread and an egg! :) He is such a good boy and yes...I will have him so spoiled!! I am so grateful for the SPCA and I thank-you for everything that you've done for us! From the bottom of my heart and from my husband and 4 children~ thank-you for the most anticipated reunion we have waited so long for. We are extremely happy and don't feel like we have a piece of us missing anymore! I will have more updates to come!! THANK-YOU!!!

"Larry and Lenny"

Check out "Jac's" video of him thinking he is a dog lol!!!

We are the proud parents of your former "Larry and Lenny," twin kittens. They are quite spoiled little guys and all of us in the house make a fuss over them. Jacy, (Larry) is attached to Jason's son while he is home and to Jason otherwise and Jac tends to gravitate to myself and Jason's other son. Jac, however is the most unusual cat. He plays fetch, begs, demands attention, begs for treats as well as come when I call him every single time. Thank you for pointing out that Jac (Lenny) had a twin brother. We and they couldn't possibly be happy as a whole family. They have brought a special bond into our family we will cherish. Attached I am sending a link I have put up on youtube if you care to share it, by all means... Thank you again, Jacy, Jac, Chris, Josh and Char

We just received another "Happy Tail's" story
and it's a "Happy Pit bull" story!!
Yaay! Pit bulls really are very special dogs and big love bugs!!

Bailey (formerly Santana) at Graduation!!

Hi Friends,

We just wanted to update you on our sweet pit bull Bailey. You knew her as Sa
ntana, that's her picture on the bottom of your home page. Her vet tells us she is a Blue Brindle, she gets a lot of compliments on how pretty she is. As you can see in her graduation picture, she has filled out nicely, that is somewhat due to all the treats she has had during her puppy training class, which she aced! She's so smart and funny, and she loves learning new tricks.

We actually met her frst family by accident, which was kind of bittersweet. They miss her very much but were happy to see her again and glad she has a new loving home. They were also kind enough to share her prior history with us, including her allergies, which turned out to be very helpful.

We want to thank you so much for the care you provided to Bailey and her first family. We are so blessed to have her in our family now, she has brought us so much happiness. If not for you that wouldn't have happened. It
was obvious how much all of you care about those liitle ones in your shelter, bless you for your dedication and the loving care you give each one. Thank you so much for everything you do. We continue to encourage others to (as you say) make adoption their first option.

Roy & Tami

"Sparkles" was found as a stray, running the streets ...

and look at her now!!!!

"Here are a few photos of 'Sparkles' in her new home. She has made a wonderful adjustment and fits in perfectly with her new companion, Beeno. She is just adorable and we feel blessed to have been able to provide her with her 'forever home'!"

"Your staff helped to make the adoption process a very rewarding one. Best wishes for future adoption successes!"

Hip Hip Hooray!!! Another Happy Tail!!!

Another Happy Tail!!!
Taylor is now living the life!!!!

"Oh Mom ... another picture??? Get over here and let's cuddle!!!"

Here are some pictures of our Beagle, Louie (aka Cledus when we adopted him) that we would like to share for the Happy Tails page. We adopted him at the end of September. He is an amazing dog. Super friendly and enjoying his training classes and his exercise with us and his pals (here he's with Mason, the boston terrier mix, and Disney, the Australian sheep dog).
